History of Our Timber Merchants
Established in the 1850s by William Gregory at our present site in Tansley, we are proud to have served the local area with all their timber needs for over 160 years.
Much of the early business consisted of providing cartwheels and shafts, wooden rollers for mangles and pit props for the many coal and lead mines in the area. A complete undertakers service including the manufacture of coffins was also provided.

Whilst we are no longer powered by water and have diversified our product offering, we are still very much a family-run business with the 5th generation, cousins Nigel and Richard, at the helm and supported by 4th generation Philip, who has no plans to fully retire just yet!
Sawmilling is in the blood and we use this extensive experience and knowledge with every customer we deal with.
We provide guidance and advice that you can rely on which you just don’t get with the larger retailers that have come to dominate the market.
